Multihump thermo-reorientational solitary waves in nematic liquid crystals: Modulation theory solutions

چکیده
The propagation of light-induced thermo-reorientational solitary waves in nematic liquid crystals is studied using numerical solutions the full governing equations and variational approximations. These form as nonlocal refractive index response to extraordinarily polarized light beams both self-focusing via induced rotation constituent molecules self-defocusing owing temperature increase through optical absorption. competing nonlinearities can lead formation one- two-dimensional multihumped ring-shaped at high enough powers with a volcano profile on plane transverse propagation. for these self-localized structured are remarkably good agreement equations.

Polarizing terahertz waves with nematic liquid crystals.
A Feussner-type terahertz polarizer with a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) layer between two fused-silica prisms is demonstrated. The polarization factor and extinction ratio of the NLC-based terahertz polarizer can exceed 0.99 and 10(-5), respectively.
متن کاملReorientational versus Kerr dark and gray solitary waves using modulation theory.
We develop a modulation theory model based on a Lagrangian formulation to investigate the evolution of dark and gray optical spatial solitary waves for both the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and the nematicon equations describing nonlinear beams, nematicons, in self-defocusing nematic liquid crystals. Since it has an exact soliton solution, the defocusing NLS equation is used ...
متن کاملInfluence of Light Polarization on Reorientational Nonlinearity in Nematic Liquid Crystals
Nematic liquid crystals are characterized by a giant optical nonlinearity which has its origin in the molecular reorientational phenomenon. Uniqueness of this nonlinear mechanism causes that response of the medium is dependent on many conditions. Among various of circumstances, both an initial alignment of liquid crystal cell and geometry of the system is very important, but in this paper a sig...
متن کاملInduced modulation instability and recurrence in nematic liquid crystals.
We study induced modulation instability in a nematic liquid crystal cell. Two broad elliptical beams along one direction are launched into the cell. The two beams have slightly different angle in order to create a sinusoidally varying intensity at the entrance of the cell. In this way, the gain of perturbations with different spatial frequency is investigated. The evolution of the optical patte...
